We put the Theragun Pro massage gun through a head to toe test and review
Bottom Line
The Therabody Theragun Pro is 55% quieter than previous generations, achieving a noise level comparable to an electric toothbrush, which makes it incredibly discreet and user-friendly. Its advanced QuietForce Technology™ ensures that you can enjoy powerful, deep-tissue massages without the loud noise typical of other devices.
Notably, world-renowned athlete Cristiano Ronaldo uses the Theragun Pro, which speaks volumes about its effectiveness and reliability. If it’s good enough for one of the best soccer players in the world, it’s certainly a worthy addition to your recovery routine.
With an impressive 5-hour battery life, the Theragun Pro stands out as the best option for continuous use that we’ve come across. Whether using it at home, in the gym, or on the go, the Theragun Pro’s long-lasting battery ensures you can get the relief you need without frequent recharges. This combination of quiet operation, celebrity endorsement, and exceptional battery life makes the Theragun Pro a top choice for anyone serious about muscle recovery and overall well-being.

Our Review of Theragun Pro Massage Gun
Needless to say this thing is pretty special and at the top of its class in massage gun technology. It has most of the trimmings one can ask for included in the package but also has optional gucci extras like the streamlined wireless charging port.
We have been hearing whispers in the fitness and wellness scene that the Theragun Pro is the favoured massage gun among Crossfitter, F45ers, yogis, runners and other professional sports.
So is it true? We will dissect this review into a couple of different categories so that you can take a look at where this thing really shines.
Extended Battery Life, More Percussions, Deeper Penetration
Let’s start with form and functionality. The three key features one would hope to maximise out of a massage gun are definitely focussed on with this latest version of Theragun.
As we touched on in the brief product description above, with this version you are copping 5 hours continuous use battery capability, better technology in the penetrating vibrations that the gun produces (up to 60% they say) which we can definitely notice, and way way more percussions per second, essentially doing the job of muscle recovery faster than ever and faster than any hands can deliver!
Considering most of our sessions personally range from 20-30 minutes of use for our self massage recovery, we are seeing about 10 separate uses out of the Theragun Pro before having to think about charging a battery.
Breaking that down even further, we get about 1 solid week of use out of it before the batteries need a top up. This is the 4th generation Lithium-Ion battery that the are using which is at play.
The ‘percussions’ we talk of are basically the amount of times the head of the Theragun bounces on and off the skin – the vibrations so to speak. Why does this matter?
Well, the depth, speed and force delivered all makes up for the overall effectiveness of the gun really. After 13 different versions to get to this one, The Theragun Pro has upped it a notch with a speed of 40 times per second on a localised area of the skin. It is difficult to describe the sensation but the difference can be felt particularly when doing a side-by-side comparison to something like the Chinese designed Cotsoco, which we can’t speak too highly of but is a very low cost option if you need.
And then there’s the penetration factor – excellent. Why do we keep talking penetration? The depth that the arm drives into the muscle determines the massage ‘force’ applied. This is also a very self-controlled aspect of the gun, or any massage gun for that matter, because you have the option as to how much force you personally apply as you move the gun around the body.
More pressure, more ouchy is pretty much how it works. The specification factor here is that the Theragun Pro can delivery up to 60lbs of force without stalling, as far as we are concerned we’ve been unable to physically withstand the amount of pain inflicted well before it evens thinks about stalling.
A Massage Gun Device For Gyms and Professionals
Something we haven’t yet touched on is the app integration this comes with. In terms of a client offering, we absolutely think the Theragun is unrivalled for gyms and professional fitness and recovery services. The option to setup your own custom recovery sessions and link them to your iphone using the Therabody app is a no brainer when decided if this is a good option for the business to impress your clients.
The Pro is a smart device and therefore connects wirelessly via bluetooth which we love in our recovery devices. The gun can be paired with a device and remotely adjusted with guided recovery programs and real time recommendations in relation to usage. The PRO can store up to three presets. Each preset is a unique combination of speed, time, and force depending on the guided wellness routine it stems from. That means that each person’s device is specific to them and can be tailored to their particular needs.
FYI, in a recent study, researchers found that there is direct level of efficacy when comparing percussion therapy to deep muscle massage.
Is This A Suitable Hand Held Massager For Home?
Short answer – yes. However, we have come to the conclusion that unless you have a super home gym setup or are just really into having the best possible massage gun for home, there are a number of other suitable options with a bit of a reduced price tag.
Regardless, as we keep harping on about, the Thergun Pro is still low profile and the fact that the device rings in with a decibel rating similar to that of an electric toothbrush, it can be used internal to the home without disturbing the house mates or the baby.
Pros
The battery life really can’t be beaten in the current market at 300 minutes between the two batteries that are included
In term of design, the Theragun is super nice to hold ergonomically and easily shifts between arm positions
You can barely hear it, which adds to its useability and makes it very low profile and non-invasive using it home
We love the 6 different attachments, easy change out for different body parts
Cons
You get what you pay for, but they don’t miss you on price with this one we must admit. Still, we are happy to pay it to get the best out of our money for a super solid massage gun
One thing we found was that even the lowest setting of the Theragun Pro is still fairly strong, but that obvious fix for that is to back it off on your personal pressure.
Key Takeaway on Theragun Pro Massage Gun
If you can afford the price tag, buy it. Even if you can’t, Afterpay or Zip it if you are in the market for a massage gun that will go the distance and last you a very long time without needing to fix and upgrade.
The Theragun is designed with so much more attention to detail than some of the other guns we’ve trialled. Not only that, the trust we have in the Theragun warranty gives us the confidence to give this thing a workout without having to worry about whether there will be any issues with repairs and replacements being covered.
As far as RG is concerned, for any high end gyms, wellness spaces, recovery centres or massage clinics, this is an essential item and we wouldn’t really want to give our customers anything else if we were in that position. For home users, equally as recommended with the lack of decibels involved you can use this thing while nursing a baby.
Remember, look after your gear and it will look after you.
