Odin Ice Bath Review - Is It Worth It For Cold Plunge On Demand?

Odin Ice Bath Review

The Odin Ice Bath is a cold plunge tub born from humble beginnings in Australia. The popularity of ice bath tubs has experienced a burgeoning as the ever increasing body of cold exposure research suggests that it is fit for athletic performance, weight loss and body composition, mental health and resilience building, injury recovery and even testosterone boosting.

Odin specialises in hand made ice bath tubs, that have filled the gap for a lot of Australian ice bath enthusiasts looking to invest in a timber plunge tub with a built in cooling. While many plungers are satisfied with converting a chest freezer to an ice bath or filling up their garbage bin with ice for a casual cold plunge, more people are getting serious and looking for a quality ice bath that can reach temperatures close to zero.

In this article, we plunge into the Odin with our Odin Ice Bath review, covering the Odin features, Odin ice bath price, warranty, shipping and lead times and how the Odin compares to other ice bath tubs on the market.

Who are Odin?

Odin Ice Bath is the result of a practice of necessity for Jono, who became obsessed with Wim Hof breathing and cold exposure, because of how it dramatically improved his health conditions.

Jono started making ice baths on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and the Odin Ice Bath business has rocketed into being a “$3m business in less than 6 months”.

Despite a terminal diagnosis of cystic fibrosis, Jono continues to pump out beautiful ice bath tubs in Australia and to the world.

Odin Specifications

The Odin Ice Bath offers a variety of models that make them suitable for both at-home and commercial options for cold plunge. One of the biggest considerations when shopping for an ice bath is the size and weight.

As far as dimensions go, the base model Odin Ice Bath is an oval shaped ice bath and is 1300L x 1250W x 650H. The larger model XL is 1600L x 1400W x 650H and is more suited to taller people over 6” 2’. Then you have the Odin Dual, which as the name suggests is designed to fit two people at once and is 1900L x 1600W x 650H.

To be honest, Odin does not supply much information about the weight specifications which is quite important if you are looking to setup the ice bath at home and need to know how much weight you are dealing with for a full ice bath.

Odin Ice Bath Models

There are three different Odin Ice Bath models (plus three if you count the Pro versions), each with different specifications relating to either size, horsepower of the chiller unit, or hot/cold functionality (however, this function is only available to the Plunge model).

As we covered sizing above, the biggest difference in the Odin Plunge models is the price.

If you opt-in for the Ice Bath model, that would be an additional $1,500.

The prices for each Odin Ice Bath can be summarised as follows:

*Odin Original: $5,900

*Odin XL: $7,000

*Odin Dual: $10,500

*All Pro Upgrades of the models above are complimentary and valued at over +$1500!

Basically, the “Pro” versions use a stronger horsepower cooling unit which means you will be able to cool down the water to your desired cold plunge temperature faster and be able to have more people using the ice bath without affecting the temperature as much. The Pro versions take 10-15 minutes to reach temperature while the standard versions can take 30-45 minutes to cool.

The “XL” models indicate a larger dimension specifically designed for taller users. This is not to be confused with the “Dual” models, which are designed with even larger dimensions than the XL, specifically for the purpose of fitting two people at once in the ice bath.

In my opinion, the Odin Original is more than enough cooling power and space for the average human, while if you are planning on buying the Odin as a commercial ice bath, the Odin Dual Pro would be the ideal purchase. As a wellness space or gym you might have about 5-10 people use the ice bath over the space if an hour whereby the body heat can affect the temperature of the water and requires a strong chiller to keep it cold if you are wanting to have the water stay at near zero temperatures. The 1/2 horsepower motor in the Dual Pro is ideal for this purpose.

What Does The Odin Ice Bath Include?

Odin Ice Bath Australia

The Odin Ice Bath Stainless interior, cedar wood exterior and powerful chiller unit

Each Odin Ice Bath is an individually made to order ice bath tub, hence the issues with back logged orders and some negative feedback on customer service. When you buy an Odin ice bath online, you will also have to pay extra for shipping depending on your location. This will sting you an extra $500 in Sydney and more in other locations, Queensland being the cheapest at $100 shipping.

In comparison, many other ice bath brands include shipping in their price, but if you are looking for an ice bath in the Gold Coast you are in luck because you will pay hundreds of dollars less for the Odin as someone Western Australia or USA.

Each Odin Ice Bath purchase includes:

  • The Tub

  • Insulated Cover

  • 5 Year limited warranty

  • Filtration system

  • UV sanitation can be purchased as an extra ($500)

Odin Ice Bath Cost

Odin Ice Bath Australia with beautiful cedar wood design

The Odin Ice Bath price is a cold $6900 for the base Original model, which will be a no-go for many people looking to buy an ice bath online. There are a few different Odin models, but they only increase in price from there.

At first, I definitely hesitated at the Odin Ice Bath price, and it is definitely worth comparing the cost to a few other options. The Odin really does look amazing aesthetically and operates like a true free flowing freezing stream if you want it to. I’m personally happy to sit in the Odin at a bearable 7-9 degrees with the water moving around the tub which makes it feel a few degrees lower as it breaks the thermal barrier.

If you are looking at converting a chest freezer into an ice bath, this could cost you about $1500, but takes a bit of skill and extra tools and equipment, not to mentioned that it is not actually the safest option for cold plunge. A converted chest freezer just does not compare to the Odin.

If you have a more rudimentary ice bath like a bin or an inflatable ice bath that you are having to buy ice for each time, that is great but it can get expensive. When I first started taking ice baths, I was buying ice bags 3-4 times per week and ended up spending almost $60/week on ice alone! Even more if I was doing the cold plunge sessions with friends. If you add this up over a year or even a few years if you are do ice baths regularly, the cost catches up pretty quick.

Then there is a gym or wellness space membership for cold plunge, which most cost around $30-$75 per visit. There are more and more recovery centres and wellness spaces now offering cold plunge in a membership option, but this can still cost $100/week or more. If you think you are someone who will be using an ice bath 3-4 times per week, there is a definite financial incentive to buy an ice bath like the Odin.

Odin Ice Bath Review 2024

Odin Ice Bath Review 2024

Is the Odin Ice Bath worth the money? I have not seen a more aesthetically pleasing ice bath tub than the Odin, and certainly the temperature range is one that is hard to rival with its true zero degree capability.

The only thing I would be aware of when buying the Odin Ice Bath right now is the super long lead time. In other Odin ice bath reviews and customer feedback I have seen customers waiting for months being told they are “catching up on production”. Of course, this is the sign of a small business that grew faster than they could keep up with, but as they improve production efficiency, this shipping issue will probably improve.

As a home ice bath setup, even the base model Odin Original would require a fair amount of space and a dedicated area with sufficient support to be able to hold the weight of the full tub. For a home recovery space, the Odin would go perfectly setup on a paved area outside or even in the garage.

For gyms and commercial wellness spaces, the Odin Ice Bath is seriously perfect. We have seen multiple Odin cold plunge tubs set up in a line at some recovery spaces like Social Remedy Byron Bay, each set at different temperatures for multiple users preferences. The Odin Dual Pro is the commercial cold plunge holy grail, with the ability to fit two people, super fast cooling capacity with a ½ Horsepower compressor to keep the ice bath cold with multiple users and the ability to be a hot tub or cold plunge overnight.

The Odin Ice Bath is designed to be left on 24/7 and only uses a similar amount of power to a household chest freezer. Because these ice baths plug straight into a standard wall socket, they are super user friendly and can be set up for household or commercial use without having to install any extra fittings.

What we don’t like about Odin Ice Baths? Odin currently offers expedited production for an added cost. What this means is that the average paying customer is being back logged despite ordering first. When will you get your Odin? Odin production times are not great, with the last reported being 12 week wait. If you order your ice bath now, you won’t be plunging for 3 months, plus the 2-8 days (depending on location) quoted for shipping after production is done. For International customers, we would highly recommend opting for something like the Cold Plunge which is more of a bathtub style ice bath or for something on a bit more a budget, the Ice Barrel is also a great option but requires ice to cool.

Final Word on Odin Ice Bath

If you are willing to wait for three months or more, the Odin is a beautiful Ice Bath for a regular ice bath user. For our Odin Ice Bath review, we would give an overall rating of 4.6/5, based on the fact that Odin has a timber Cedarwood finish, hardy stainless steel interior, adjustable temperature all the way down to zero degrees Celsius, good water flow to break thermal skin barrier, and of course it is Australian made.

Where Odin lack is obviously in the turn around time for their ice baths and maybe the ability to control the ice bath via WIFI or an app would be a nice feature to add in future models.
